You could also say in really good shape.

devastated「ひどくショックを受けて。打ちのめされて」

So what exactly does devastated mean?
Well, as you say it’s a difficult word, perhaps if we look at an image like, you know, in boxing match, someone is KO, knocked out. In the similar fashion you would have all your hope knocked out of you.
Another good word to use is clashed. Like, in clashed by the impact of the event.
