12 火 Lesson47 進行形の基礎
Welcome back, guys. This is Rosa Akino. We have another great lesson plans for you all today.
Is that right, Rosa?
OK. I’m Chris McVay. I’m here to accompany you.
Chris and Rosa, it’s a very vague question. But what’s impression about progressive?
Over to you, Rosa. Since it’s very vague. 曖昧
Well, if you insist. The progressive has the impression of “explaining something that’s going on right in this moment, of “in the middle of that action.”
Right, I think, that’s the best expression, isn’t it? In the middle of something, it’s continuing, it’s started, but not yet finished. It’s still going on.
What’s the difference between these two?
“I apologize” is a common use of apologizing. So, when something goes wrong, you say,”I’m sorry. I apologize.”
Yeah, this is a little less common, because it need a specific context to make sense. So it could be, for example, that you’re in an argument with somebody. And they say,”I want you to apologize.”
Huh? I am apologizing. That’s what I’m doing right now.
Chris and Rosa, we have a lot more to learn about the progressive, right?
Yes, we certainly have, but for the moment you should focus on grasping this basic image of “in the middle of, or, continuing”
Because that’s the most important part, right?
What’s we learned over today. And of course, you have to keep on practicing and practicing and practicing. So that it comes out naturally.
