週末の過ごし方をルームメイトで親友のエミリーと相談するテルマ。なかなかやりたいことが見つかりません。

えーわかんない･･････。 ショッピングとか?
週末の予定で「何する?」と聞かれたテルマはすぐにいいアイデアが思い浮かびません。 そこで I don’t know… と言うことで、次に言うことを考える時間稼ぎをしています。 I don’t know… は、このように言いよどみの際にもよく用いられます。
(When asked “What are you going to do this weekend?” Thelma can’t come up with a good idea right away. So she says, “I don’t know…” to buy time to think about what to say next. Thelma buys time to think about what to say next. I don’t know… is also often used in this way when you hesitate to say something.)
