Really? はわりと使うけど、
Not really. はどう使うの? と言う人がとても多いです。

1). 「そんなでもないよ」と返事したいときの not really
Thelma has just come home from a soccer match.
Dialogue
テルマがアマチュア・サッカーの試合を終えて帰ってきました。
(Thelma has just returned from an amateur soccer match.)

Did you have a good game?
Not really. We lost.

Not really.
そんなでもないよ。

テルマのチームはあまり納得のいく試合ではなかったので、 エミリーの「いい試合だった?」という質問に
Not really. と答えています。
It was not really good. (あんまりよくなかった)
このように Not really. は、聞かれた内容に関して 「あまり〜ない」 「そうでもない」というキモチで、短く答えるときによく使い

A: Thelma, Are you hungry?
B: Not really. I had a late breakfast.
A: おなかすいた?
B: そんなでもない。 朝食遅かったんだ。

2). やんわり否定したいときの not really
Emily, Paul, and Greg said they would hang out together today. But Greg hasn’t come yet.
