Our current vignette talks about the changing demands on CEOs and how companies are increasingly expected to contribute to the welfare of society at large. Now American companies are under pressure to shift the focus from profits for shareholders to serving the interests of all their stakeholders, customers, employees, shareholders and the communities in which they operate. Corporate social responsibly has become more important than ever.

I strongly support the idea of companies contributing to the general welfare. Especially big, successful firms with all their financial strength and name recognition, they can do a great deal of good in the world and they should. But even if companies look at the issue from a purely selfish position, corporate social responsibility is vital. name recognition 知名度
bad rep. = bad reputation 悪評、悪い評判
