Collins announces that she’ll be leaving A&A, which the other staff react to with great surprise and sadness. She says she is given the company two months’ notice, which should be ample time to find her replacement. Ueda asks what her future plans are, and Collins says that her next job will let her follow her passion in a less high-pressure environment.
Ueda says, “What?! You’ve got to be kidding.”
You can’t be serious, would also work here.
We use these to express feelings of shock, ah, dismay, amazement. Things like, that lazy jerk got promoted? You’ve got to be kidding. Or, the deadline is now two weeks earlier? Oh, you can’t be serious. jerk 間抜け、バカ
