Less welcoming, basically. Doesn’t provide as good an environment in which germs can flourish. We also use “hospitable” about more welcome things and people than germs. Like, the city is trying to become more hospitable to tourists. So, they’re putting up more signs in foreign languages, launching a tourism website, etc. And the opposite expression is “inhospitable.” This planet is completely inhospitable to life. Or, the Westcoast saw some very inhospitable weather, snow and strong winds.
