Topic 23: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Day 5.
Let’s begin with a quick review. From Day 1 to Day 4, we’ve been learning about the different kinds of advice people have received.
That’s right. We learned two “takeaway” phrases. Everyone, try saying them after Vinay and me. The first one was: That encourages me to do the same.
That encourages me to do the same. And the second one was: The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is to keep trying.
The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is to keep trying.
Okay. Were you able to say them out loud? I’m sure you did a great job. Now, let’s listen to this week’s dialogue one last time.

Now, let’s review some of the phrases in the dialogue. Try saying them after Ananda and Vinay. James asks Lena about the best piece of advice she’s ever received. She says…
“My mother taught me that I should treat other people as I want to be treated.”
After that, she says…
“She always treats people with respect and patience.”
And then, she adds…
“She’s friendly and helpful and she always makes time for everyone.”
Lena continues to talk about her mother. She says…
“She always tells me she’s proud of me.” “That makes me feel good about myself.”
Next, James says the best piece of advice he’s ever received is to keep trying. He talks about the time when he received it. He starts by saying…
“A while ago, I was feeling pretty negative about myself.”
Then he adds…
“But my best friend said that he knew I could reach my goals.”
At the end, he says…
“He believed in me, and that really helped me out.”
How was it? I hope these phrases will help you when you have a conversation in English.
