♪ Topic 14: If you could open a shop, what kind of shop would it be? Day 4.
All right. Let’s start off with a chat with Tomas. Tomas, we’d like to know more about your high school days. At what age do you start high school in Portugal?
We start high school at the age of 15, but I actually went to a German school in Portugal.
German school?
That’s right.
So, that means all the classes were taught in German?
One hundred percent in German.
Wow.
Oh, wow!
That’s one reason your German became so good.
That’s right.
What time did your school start, and what time did it end?
So, school started at eight in the morning every day. And it ended at 1:20 p.m.
1:20?
Yes.
Early.
That’s early.
Yes. That’s the early days. Sometimes it would end at four p.m.
So, if it ended at 1:20, did you have lunch?
Um, no. I would usually have lunch at home if it ended early.
How did you get to school?
We would usually wake up at around seven, and our dad would drive us to school – me and my brother.
So nice. How long was the drive to school?
It was five minutes, depending on traffic.
Wow, five minutes. That’s close.
So, did your dad drive you home every day, too?
Oh, no. actually walked back from school.
Oh, how long did that take?
Usually 10 minutes.
So close.
We knew a shortcut.
Did your school serve lunch?
Yes, they did.
What kind of food?
Spaghetti, mashed potatoes. I loved mashed potatoes.
Me too.
And soup as well.
What did you usually do after school?
Well, in high school, I mostly focused on making videos to upload online.
What kind of videos did you make?
I made gaming-related videos.
Wow. Teaching how to play?
Yeah. Kind of.
Well, uh-huh.
Yeah. I taught how to play the game
Uh-huh.
in different ways.
Interesting.
And rarely, I would also play soccer with my friends after school.
Rarely?
Yeah. Not very often.
