LOS ANGELES (Kyodo) — Shohei Ohtani had a home run and stolen base each to move up to 52-52 for the season Friday as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 6-4.
After stealing two bases and homering in three straight at-bats to reach an unprecedented 51-51 in a monumental outing against the Miami Marlins on Thursday, Ohtani wasted little time to further raise his numbers in his return to Dodger Stadium.
Ohtani, who tipped his helmet to appreciate the home crowd’s standing ovation ahead of his first at-bat, slugged his 52nd homer to center with a runner on in the fifth inning off a high 3-2 fastball out of the zone from Kyle Freeland (5-8) to give his team a 3-2 lead.
Having legged out an infield single to first in the seventh to go 3-for-4 on the night, Ohtani stole second on the next pitch and went on to score on a Teoscar Hernandez single for his team’s last run of the game.
“It was wonderful. That made me really happy, and I was moved,” Ohtani said of the home fans’ welcome. “Just being on the receiving end of something like this in my first season at the club makes me happy.”
Ohtani leads the National League in home runs and RBIs (122), while New York Yankees center fielder Aaron Judge leads the major leagues in both categories with 53 homers and 136 RBIs.
The two-way star, off his pitching duty this year as he rehabs from his throwing elbow surgery last September, has eight games left in the regular season to add to his 52-52.
“I look to keep having good at-bats. I believe the numbers won’t get far once I start being conscious of it,” Ohtani said. “I’ll empty my mind and hope to fulfill my role.”

木曜日に、マイアミ・マーリンズとの記念すべき試合で、前例のない51本塁打・51盗塁に到達した大谷は、3打席連続でホームランを放ち、2つの盗塁を記録した。その後、彼はドジャースタジアムに戻り、さらに自身の記録を短時間で伸ばした。
