英語で読み解く現代社会 10/28 (1) ロスリングほか著「FACTFULNESS」を英語で読む
Hello. And welcome to this special episode of Reading Factfulness in English.
My name is Shusaku Uesugi. And I co-translated the bestselling book called “Factfulness” into Japanese. I’m joining from my home in San Francisco, bay area.
Well, usually the weather is really nice in the bay area. But unfortunately, there’s wild fires going on. So, it’s a little smoky, I guess.
Yes. I’m very excited to chat with you about Factfulness. You know, I think the lessons from Factfulness are really important to navigate such complex time that we’re going through right now. And I think being able to make fact-based decisions instead of instinct-driven decisions. It’s key to success, you know, both in business and life. So, yeah! Today, I’d like to share some quick tips on Factfulness that you can use every day.
All right. So, to start our discussion about Factfulness, I’m gonna give you a quick quiz.
I think one of the reasons Factfulness became a bestselling book is because of the quiz at the beginning of the book. I think many people took those quizzes and they were really surprised that they’re no better than chimpanzees. So, yeah! I created a new quiz question for you to try out.
Cool! So, the quiz is about the cost of living in different parts of Japan. If you take a look at the cost of living data for each prefecture in Japan in 2019, Tokyo has the highest cost of living and Miyazaki has the lowest cost of living. So, basically, Tokyo is expensive and Miyazaki is cheap.
But now the question is “How much more expensive is the cost of living for Tokyo compared to Miyazaki?”
