Chris, Rosa, “He is being selfish.” sounds a bit strange for many learners. Is this sentence truly natural?
Absolutely. It’s perfect natural, as far as I’m concerned. 私に関する限り How about you, Rosa?
Yes, and it’s actually quite frequently used as well.
Chris, Rosa, what’s the difference between “He is being selfish.” and “He is selfish.”?
Well, if you say, “He is being selfish.”, it means now. It’s at a particular moment, in a particular situation.
Whereas, if you say, “He is selfish.”, that means he is always selfish.
That’s right. It’s the person’s personality. He is a selfish type of guy.
Chris, Rosa, which is more shocking, “You’re selfish.” and “You’re being selfish.”

Well, of course, “You’re selfish” is much more shocking. Because it means that you are a selfish person, right, Chris?
Exactly. You know, so, somebody said, “You’re being selfish.” I might be a little upset. But somebody said to me, “You are selfish.”, I might hit him.
