BBC Learning English:How to use the third conditional
BBC Learning English:How to use the third conditional
Why is the third conditional so hard?
That’s what Victoria wants to know.
Why is using the third conditional so difficult?
Well, the meaning is confusing. The third conditional is used to talk about situations that are not real from the past.
If I’d studied harder, I would have got into university.
Did she get into university?
No. Why?
She didn’t study hard enough.
If I hadn’t gone to bed so late, I wouldn’t have missed my alarm.
This is a regret.
She wishes that she had one something differently.
The pronunciation is also difficult, and contractions are important.
The I talk about the pronunciation, and much more on our website. I’ve made a longer video with more examples, so come with me and let’s watch that now.
