Both words mean well-known, however there is a difference in meaning.
Famous is used in a positive or neutral sense. Since George became rich and famous, he’s completely changed.
Infamous means well-known for a bad reason. A synonym is notorious. I’m watching a documentary on infamous war criminals. The company are infamous for not paying their taxes.
