♪ Topic 2: What do you eat first? Day 3.
So, yesterday, we talked about different ways to answer the question: What do you eat first?
Uh-huh. Now, Riku, imagine that you are Ken.
Okay.
Okay. Ken, what do you eat first?
I eat my favorite things first.
I see.
Yes, exactly. And during dinner, Ken asks, “May I be excused?” Here, “May I be excused?” means, “I want to leave the dinner table.” Maybe Ken wants to go back to his room.
Okay, Riku. Imagine that you are Ken again.
Sure.
Okay. Ken, why do you want to be excused?
I want to be excused because I’m full.
Thank you. That was great.
Yes. Well done, Riku… or Ken! Good for you. All right, now, let’s listen to this week’s dialogue. Ken and Mika are talking about what they eat first and last.
-Dialogue 1st Listen
That’s your goal for the year? Find a girlfriend?
It’s a goal.
Yeah, well, we were thinking your goal might be… to do better in math.
Uh-huh. Sure. May I be excused?
What about your salad?
I’m full.
Ken. You need vegetables.
You said I shouldn’t eat when I’m full.
You always leave the veggies for last.
So? I eat my favorite thing first. What’s wrong with that?
That’s why you leave your veggies. I start with what
I don’t like. Then, I can look forward to my favorite thing.
Good for you! If I eat what I don’t like first, I’ll be full.
Then, I won’t be able to eat my favorite thing! Ugh, can I be excused now? I have a stomachache.
Oh, Ken.
You know, Ken… your way of eating is like your way of living.
Well, my way, whatever I’m eating is always the best thing. Excuse me.
Huh. That actually makes sense.
