(You may have been confused by the Swedish God morgon. and Hej då. in this month’s conversation.
However, it is quite common to hear the local language mixed in in real conversations.
In fact, if you learn the local language, even if it is just a greeting, you will make a good impression on the person you are talking to and make conversation easier!
For example, don’t you feel closer to a foreigner who says “konnichiwa” (hello) or “arigato” (thank you) in Japanese?
I myself had a lot of difficulties when I first started living in Japan, but as I started actively using Japanese, even if it was easy, the difficulties disappeared and I came to love Japan.
I hope that through this year’s “Journey Across the World,” you too will gradually add greetings from around the world to your own international communication toolbox.
I hope that you will also add greetings from around the world to your international communication toolbox through this year’s “Journey Across the World.)

Have you ever heard the Swedish word, “Fika”? Fika means having coffee and dessert. Outdoor fika is one of my favorite activities. Let’s enjoy the great outdoors in Sweden next month!
