Late or lately? What’s the difference?
Late can be an adjective or adverb and means after the expected time.
George is arriving late again.
Lately is an adverb and means recently.
We often use it with present perfect or present perfect continuous.
Careful though, you can use it with states.
I’ve been quite tired lately.
You can use it with repeated actions.
I’ve been going out a lot lately.
However, we don’t use it with a single event.
So we don’t say I’ve moved house lately.
You need to say I’ve moved house recently.
I’ve been going to bed late lately.

「late」と「lately」、その違いは何でしょうか？

late は形容詞または副詞で、「予定された時間より遅れて」という意味です。
例： George is arriving late again.
（ジョージはまた遅れて到着しています。）
lately は副詞で、「最近」という意味です。
よく現在完了形や現在完了進行形と一緒に使われます。

ただし注意が必要です。「lately」は**状態（state）**を表す文にも使えます。
I’ve been quite tired lately.
（最近とても疲れています。）
また、「繰り返される行動（repeated actions）」にも使えます。
I’ve been going out a lot lately.
（最近よく外出しています。）

しかし、「単一の出来事（single event）」には使えません。
したがって、
✗ I’ve moved house lately. とは言わず、
✓ I’ve moved house recently.
（最近引っ越しました。）
と言う必要があります。
