Topic 15: Are you and your friends alike? Day 4.
All right, then. Let’s start with a brief chat with Nero. Nero, you’re from Australia, but you went to a performing arts school in Switzerland.
That’s correct. I did.
Please tell us a little about that.
The performing arts school in Switzerland was for two years. But I also went to performing arts secondary school in Australia for three years.
Oh, wow.
So, did you live with other students?
In Australia, I lived with my mother. But in Switzerland, I lived in a dormitory.
A dormitory. So, a building where all the students live together?
That’s right. And students not only from my school but from other schools and universities.
Oh, really? So, how was that experience?
It was interesting. Um, we shared with students from all over the world.
Oh.
not only the European continent but also Africa and Asia. It was pretty fun.
Wow!
How many countries did you visit?
Mmm… have I visited in my life or when I was a high school student?
Mm, life?
In my life? Oh, that’s a difficult question. I’ve lived in Australia, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, and Japan, but travel, oh, I don’t know. Maybe 15, 20 countries.
You’ve lived in many countries.
That’s right.
and studied with people from many places.
Right.
What do you think, Nero, is important when communicating with people from different parts of the world?
What I think is important when communicating with different people from different parts of the world is to
have an open mind.
Open mind.
What I mean by that is understanding other people’s point of view or their different ways of thinking, culture, etc.
