I’m Jenny Silver. Welcome to business English for global competence.

The topic shifts to the development of the Japanese market. When asked how to solve WCS’s problems, Risa proposes her own strategy.

Daniel:
Right. We see the potential in the Japanese market, but we’re finding it a tough nut to crack due to long-standing relationships Japanese importers have with hotels, restaurants, and so forth. While anyone can work with up-and-coming entities, how will we convince the old guard-the best of the best-to work with us?
Lisa:
I think WCS has an unmatched history in Europe and California. Restaurant owners or sommeliers want a piece of this to become a part of the history behind the prestigious vineyards of Burgundy, Bordeaux, Mosel, Napa … WCS’s relationships with the producers go back centuries. This is something Japanese importers cannot match.
Daniel:
So, what are we doing wrong?
Lisa:
I think you need to market your prestige as an importer more-arrange events that make your customers and producers feel a part of this centuries-old legacy.
