自然災害の関連表現- 大雨(Expressions related to natural disasters – heavy rain)
「
大雨」は英語だと big rain ではなく heavy rain
ちなみに、 「暴風」は英語だと strong wind です。 大雨に関連する自然災害の1つが「洪水」で、英語だと flood や flooding で表しますが、
There’s flooding. (洪水が発生しています) や
Be careful of flooding. (洪水に注意してください) のように、 局地的な災害や気象情報について言うときは flooding がよく使われます。
flood は My uncle’s house got flooded last year. (去年、おじの家が洪水の被害に遭いました)のように、ある場所の全体が洪水になったことを言うときに使います。

実際に僕のおじはフロリダのとある川の近くに住んでいて、 去年ハリケーンが上陸したときは近隣住民も含めて大変だったと聞きました。
(Actually, my uncle lives near a river in Florida, and I heard that when the hurricane hit last year, it was hard for everyone, including the neighbors.)
緊急時は情報収集が大事なので、 実は肯定文より疑問文が便利。
(Gathering information is important in an emergency, so interrogative sentences are actually more convenient than affirmative sentences.)
Is there flooding? (洪水が発生していますか?)
のように、自分から質問して安全のための情報を聞きましょう。

海外の緊急電話番号を確認しよう(Check international emergency numbers)
携帯電話は緊急時に最も重要な連絡手段の1つ。
ただし、 通報用の電話番号は国によって違います。
(Mobile phones are one of the most important means of communication in an emergency.
However, the telephone numbers for reporting vary depending on the country.)
ヨーロッパでは多くの国が警察、 救急、消防で112 を採用していますが、 ドイツは日本と同じ110でも警察に通報できるようです。
また、 北米や中南米では多くの国が911 を採用しています。
大使館の連絡先も含めて、海外に渡航する前に、もしものときに備えて調べておいてくださいね。
