-♪ Topic 16, Day 1.
Let’s warm up by chatting about this week’s topic, which is: Should you follow your dream or be realistic?
Should you follow your dream or be realistic?
Here, a “dream” is something that you really want to happen, or you really want to do, but it’s very difficult and probably won’t happen.
“To follow your dream” means “to try to do that wonderful thing even though the chance of success is
very small.”
Right. That’s why we call it a “dream.” Because it’s something that we imagine, but it might not be realistic.
Riku, do you remember the word “realistic”?
Yes. “Realistic” means similar “true” and “really.”
Ah, like “true.”
Similar to “true” or “real.” Yes. “To be realistic” means “to understand things the way they really are.”
And “to accept what is possible in your situation.” For example, to get straight A’s in all your subjects without studying might not be realistic for most people.
But to get straight A’s in all your subjects by studying hard could be realistic.
So, the question is: Should you follow your dream or be realistic? That’s the question we’ll discuss this week.
Now, let’s look at this week’s dialogue.
It’s late at night. Mom and Dad are asleep.
Ken goes into the kitchen for a glass of water. Mika is there.
Why are Ken and Mika awake so late at night? Let’s listen and find out.

So, Riku, what were you able to catch?
Mika couldn’t sleep, and Ken is so kind.
Yeah.
He’s a nice brother.
He wants to hear her thoughts.
Riku, who is talking about reaching their dream?
Mika.
Yes.
That’s right.Yes.
They are.And who thinks it’s better to be realistic?
Ken.
Their opinions are a little different.
We’ll find out more about Mika’s and Ken’s thoughts on Day 2 and Day 3.

-New Words, New PhrasesNotes
The first one is: will.
“Will” is a word all you listeners have heard before.
Don’t you think, Riku?
Yes.
