Let’s compare this ball in the box.
This is on.
under,
behind.
Here the ball is next the box.
Two words together now:
‘next to’
or,
‘to the left of,
to the right of.
The ball is in front of .
So we say ‘in front of’ or ‘In front of’,
you can drop that T.
But we don’t say ‘behind of’:
for ‘behind’ there is no ‘of’.
The ball is in front of the box.
The ball is behind the box.

‘On top of’
the same meaning as ‘on’:
on,
under,
behind,
in,
next to,
to the right of,
to the left of,
on top of,
