♪ Topic 9: What are the good and bad points of getting information on the Internet? Day 4.
All right, then. Let’s welcome our guest for the next two months.
Hello, my name is Jae Leung. You can call me Jae.
Hello, Jae!
Welcome, Jae! It’s great to have you here. Please tell us a little about yourself.
I am from Singapore. But I was born in Hong Kong. I moved to Singapore when I was five years old. And I’ve been staying there ever since – until I came to Tokyo 10 years ago.
Wow.
I’m currently working in an IT company. And I have two kids.
Two kids? Two children?
Two children, two boys.
You’re a dad.
Two boys. Ah, they are five years old and three years old.
Oh, wow. May I ask you about Singapore? What do you think is special about your country?
Well, some fun information, Singapore is actually only about 60 years old as a country.
That’s very new!
Yes.
And it’s only about the size of Tokyo city.
Wow. Where is the best place to visit in Singapore?
My favorite spot is actually the Singapore Zoo. Because it is one of the most famous zoos in the world, and it has a world-famous night safari.
Night safari in the zoo.
That’s correct.
What happens in the night safari?
It allows animals like owls, or predators like lions, tigers, when they are the most active at night, to move around. And you get to see animals at their most active time instead of the sleepy time in the daytime.
That makes sense.
Yeah. (A) “predator” is an animal that hunts and eats other animals.
That is correct.
Yeah, wow.
And there are many other animals that are more active at night and not dangerous. So, because it’s a safari, they are allowed to walk among the tourists.
Oh, wow.
You cannot touch them, but they are used to having humans walking around.
The humans are walking, not in a bus.
There is a bus service, but we can also walk around.
Oh, wow.
For example, to look at the lions or tigers, they are in an open space where they’re unable to jump out.
Oh, okay.
It’s very safe.
I see.
Okay. I was a little worried. I was imagining walking around a big group of lions just — but I’m glad to hear that it’s very safe and sounds like it’s very popular.
It is one of the most popular tourist spots of Singapore.
