Get Around Amsterdam

(The word “bicycle” is often used in everyday conversation. In English, bicycle may come to mind, but in actual English conversation, bike is also often used.)

(Also, the English word for “pedal” is pedal, but “handlebar”, “saddle”, and “stand” are a bit tricky and can’t be understood as they are (check it out on Day 2). This month, let’s learn expressions about major means of transportation, including bicycles.)

(The basic parts and mechanisms of bicycles have not changed much since then, but new technologies are becoming more and more popular. The picture below is an e-bike I saw recently. Nowadays, electric bicycles are no longer rare in the United States as they are in Japan, and electric bicycles of various designs are appearing in addition to the so-called “mamachari” type. We are in the midst of an electric bicycle boom!)

(This month we’re talking about orthodox bikes, but they’re set in a city that’s perfect for bikes. Amsterdam is an eco-friendly city. Let’s have an English conversation while running around the city area with beautiful canals. There are some local words in the mock conversations, so please try to incorporate them into your conversations.)

Let’s cycle around Amsterdam and speak in English with a few local phrases mixed in.

(A stylish and powerful e-bike.
On a sunny day, I want to go around town lightly with this.)
