モントルー・ジャズフェスティバル (Montreux Jazz Festival)
スイスのレマン湖 (Lake Geneva) のほとりにあるリゾート地、モントルーで毎年7月に開催されるモントルー・ジャズフェスティバルは、50年以上もの歴史を誇る世界有数の音楽イベント。
(The Montreux Jazz Festival, held every July in Montreux, a resort town on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland, is one of the world’s leading music events with a history of more than 50 years.)
テニスで言うとウィンブルドン、ゴルフで言うとマスターズに近いかもしれません。
(In tennis, it’s like Wimbledon, and in golf, it’s like the Masters.)
ジャズだけでなく幅広いジャンルのミュージシャンが参加して、 2週間以上にわたって盛り上がります。
(Musicians from a wide range of genres, not just jazz, will participate, and the event will be lively for over two weeks.)
実は、アメリカにはモントレー・ジャズフェスティバル、カナダにはモントリオール・ジャズフェスティバルがあるのですが、 どれも地名の響きが似ていますね。
(Actually, there is the Monterey Jazz Festival in the United States and the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada, but they all sound similar to each other.)
