西暦の年を英語で言うには?(How to say the year in the Western calendar in English?)
英語で「西暦○年」と言う場合、多くは数字を2桁ずつ分けて言います。
(In English, when we say “Year X”, we usually divide the number into two digits.)
「2023年」の場合、 twenty と言って最初の20を伝えたあと、 下2桁の twenty-three (23) を続けて言うのが定番。 この場合、 日本語だと 「にせん」 から始まっていますが、 英語だと two thousand からは始まりません。1900年代も同様で、 「1923年」 なら nineteen (19)と twenty-three (23) で分けて言います。
例外となるのが、 下2桁が 10未満のとき。 「2002年」 なら two thousand and two のように、 two thousand から始まります。
では、いろいろな出来事について西暦の年を入れて文を作ってみましょう。
「1990年に日本に初めて来ました」
