year を応用した 「年度」 の表現
1つ目の応用表現は「会計年度」を表す fiscal year / accounting year
この講座に頑張って取り組むビジネスパーソンの方もいらっしゃると聞いています。
(I hear that there are also business people who work hard on this course.)
「会計年度は3月末に終わります」 や 「4月1日から新しい会計年度が始まります」…これを英語で言うと、
Our fiscal year ends at the end of March.
そして Our new fiscal year starts on April first. と言います。

もう1つ、日常会話によく出てくるのが 「学校の年度」、 つまり学年。
これは school year と言います。 ちなみに、 大学 (university /college) であっても school year が使われます。
この表現を使って、日本の学校についても説明できるといいですね。
例えば、 「欧米の多くの学校は8月や9月に始まりますが、日本では4月始まりがほとんどです」を英語で言うと?
Most school years in Europe and the U.S. start in August or September. But most school years in Japan start in April. です。
「年末」を英語で言うと?
すぐに伝わるのは the end of the year で、 文の中で使うことも単独で言うこともできます。
the year’s end や year-end でも通じることはありますが、 あまり一般的ではありません。
ちなみに、 「月末」は the end of the month で言えます。
