Emoji vocabulary: sports.

American football.
Of course, in America
we just call it football
because we call this ‘soccer’;
it’s like the word ‘sock’ with an R at the end:
soccer.

Baseball.
Basketball.
Notice both of those have stress on the first syllable and not on ‘ball’:
Baseball.
Basketball.
Bowling.
A bowling ball and three pins.
Boxing.
The letter X can make [ks] or [gz] in English.
Here, it’s [ks]: Boxing.
Tennis.
This is a racket and a tennis ball.
Volleyball.
I’ve noticed some students from Germany and India
pronouncing this ‘wallyball’.
Don’t mix up your V and W; this is volleyball.
