ショーンが仕事を終えてテルマを夕飯に誘いますが、 テルマはまだ何通かメールを送らなくてはいけません。
それで、せっかく誘ってくれたのに行けないな、というキモチで
(After work, Sean invites Thelma out for dinner, but Thelma still has to send some emails. So, even though she had invited me, I felt like I couldn’t go.)

Maybe next time. と言っています。
Maybe next time. 「たぶん今度ね」 が直訳で、誘われたときに印象が悪くならないように断る場合の常套手段です。
