(This year as well, we have passed the halfway point and some of those who have broken through the wall of not being able to come up with any words in time have a new problem: “I can only say the same simple expressions every time.” There may be some people. From here, the learning path splits into two. There are two ways: inputting “native English” and improving “one’s own style of English.”)

(Yanni from Sweden, who served as our navigator from April to July, spoke American English, perhaps because she was trying to adjust to my needs, but basically European people, including her, speak American English. I use English in accordance with the sense of my mother tongue.)

(Personally, I am able to communicate comfortably with my colleagues who have been working with me for many years in Japan using Steve’s Japanese.)

(Recently, the recognition that “you don’t necessarily have to speak the same English as a native speaker” is spreading in various fields. For example, the IT field. A while ago, language databases and speech recognition were limited to American or British English, but now they support English from a variety of regions and countries, including Europe, Asia, and Africa. As a result, expressions that were once considered “wrong” now seem to be accumulating as “correct” English.)
