Use “because” or “because of” to talk about reasons.
Because is always followed by a subject and verb,
Mina wore a coat because it was raining.
It is a subject and was is the verb.
So we use because.
“because of” is always followed by a noun phrase.
Mina wore a coat because of the rain.
The rain is a noun. So it’s “because of”
Let’s practice.
1). We didn’t eat there [because] the food was bad.
2). I didn’t drink the coffee [because of] the taste.
3). I ate the dessert [because] it tasted lovely.

“The food was bad” has a subject and verb. So it’s because.
The taste is a noun phrase. So we write “because of”.
“It tased” is a subject with verb so it’s because.
And that’s it.
